Thank you to the members of the class of who took the time to complete the Commencement survey. It is resoundingly clear from the results that the class is eager to return to campus to celebrate your achievements. Amherst College is exploring options for spring or summer and continues to work diligently to confirm a date.
Members of the Class of are encouraged to update their contact information within the Alumni Directory to receive updates. Amherst is partnering with A. Hastings to celebrate the Bicentennial with clothes, gear, books, and more. Gear up to show yours! Due to inclement weather, the commencement was moved inside. Graduating students filled Coolidge Cage, while parents and other guests viewed a livestream of the speeches and stage-crossing from LeFrak Gymnasium.
Retired Hampshire County sheriff Robert Garvey led the procession of students through the gymnasium on the way to their seats in the Cage so that attending families and friends could watch part of the celebration in person. The commencement did not feature any outside speakers or faculty speeches.
Instead, Martin gave a traditional centennial speech, mirroring the one given by then-president Alexander Meiklejohn in Incomplete Comprehensive Exams. Failed Courses. Applications received after this deadline will not be considered.
Applications require the approval of the student's academic advisor s and class dean. Note that a student previously eligible to participate early in the commencement ceremony who receives a failing grade resulting in more than 4 courses to completion of the degree will no longer be eligible to participate early in the ceremony and will be so informed by the Registrar and the student's class dean.
