Current employee parking would be converted to an expanded truck lot. Milk-Bone products are shipped from the plant to distribution centers around the country. Products produced at the plant range from Doggy Bag Treats, a chicken, beef and lamb product, to four varieties of Super Premium Milk-Bones, and dozens more.
The plant produces 62 different package types. Production begins on the seventh floor where flour is pumped from outside silos and blended with dry ingredients. Ingredients are stored in the basement and transported by industrial elevator to the top floor. Blended ingredients are then transferred in a continuous automated process down to sixth-floor mixers.
Water and pressure are added to create dough. The dough continues along conveyor belts and down to the fifth floor. Large rollers press the dough into continuous sheets run through large cutout rollers. Uncooked biscuits continue on conveyor belts through a large oven where they are baked to hardness. The plant has six ovens, each stretching feet. From the ovens, biscuits pass to the fourth floor where they go through a dryer for further moisture reduction.
They continue to the third floor to be machine weighed, packaged and boxed. Boxes are transferred to the second floor, placed on pallets and shrink wrapped. Full pallets are transferred to the first floor for shipping. The plant runs six production lines and eight packaging lines.
It operates three shifts, five days a week. If demand is high, extra days are added. Milk-Bone is not sold overseas. Milk-Bone dog biscuits originated as a sideline at S.
