Step 2: On the inbox, select one or more messages. Then click on More menu and choose the Mute option. Or, if you are already reading a message, click on More menu and click on Mute. Navigate to All Mail. Look for the conversation that you wish to unmute the label — Muted, may provide some help. You may also open a message and do this.
Or on an open message you can simply hit on that cross appearing against Muted on the top of the message. Just to relieve yourself from the All Mail clutter, you may search the mails by typing is:muted on the search box. On the results, you may do any of the above.
Any new messages sent to the conversation thread will not appear in your inbox but will be added to the archive. The thread only reappears if a new message in the conversation is sent solely to you, or if your email address is appended to the "To" or "Cc" fields. Any other filters you've set up that match the conversation are still applied. Muted conversations are permanently archived, but the messages within them are not marked as read.
To find conversation threads that you've muted, type "is:muted" into the search field. Muted conversations also appear in regular searches, so you could type "from: " to find a muted thread or search for the subject header. Any unread messages in the conversation thread will be displayed in bold. MichaelPryor, agreed. To me, it seems like that is the entire reason for the feature!
